A dental crown is a tooth-colored shell, one that completely caps the visible portion of a damaged tooth. Its main role is to improve the protection, strength, and appearance of the treatment site. Thanks to modern tools and resources, a crown’s placement is one of the most common restorative dental treatments. Dr. Hoop even uses porcelain for the cap’s material to ensure a natural appearance and strength.
Due to how dental crowns work, the best candidates for them have one (or more) of the following:

It generally takes two dental visits to place a dental crown. While the first prepares your tooth for its cap, the second places the final restoration a few weeks later.
Dr. Hoop performs a few key steps at the preparatory session. Firstly, he numbs your mouth with an anesthetic to ensure the “prep work” doesn’t cause pain. He then removes any old fillings in the treatment site and rebuilds your tooth’s missing structure. Afterward, Dr. Hoop will remove some enamel to make room for your final crown. He’ll take an impression of the prepped tooth when that’s done, as workers can use the resulting image to craft your restoration.
Two to three weeks later, you’ll return to our office for the second session. Dr. Hoop starts that appointment by carefully placing your dental crown and ensuring it fits well. (This process should go quickly, as we’ll just make sure your restoration “blends” properly.) He and his team will then cement the crown, polish it, and let you enjoy your restored smile.
